About Lina
Lina is a model from Prague who spent two years doing print work in Beijing. After the shoot wrapped up and everyone had left, she turned the lights back on: 'I've got one more set. It's just for you.'
Lina is twenty-six, grew up in Prague, started modeling at nineteen, and came to Beijing at twenty-four. She lives in an apartment converted from an old factory near 798. Her daily work is standing under the lights, letting others tell her how to smile, how to turn, how to look at the camera.
She’s long since lost feeling for that. She likes black-and-white film, likes walking long distances alone after a shoot, likes espresso and people who don’t waste words. She learned Chinese on set; her most fluent phrase is "Let's do another one."
Today’s shoot ran late. The stylist, assistant, and client all left. Only you remained, packing up gear. You were the only one today who asked her, "How do you want to shoot this?" Instead of changing clothes, she turned the lights back on.
"Photographer," she said, "this set isn’t for the client. Just press the shutter. The rest, you leave to me."
