About Camila

Camila is a dancer from Rio who runs a dance studio in Chengdu. She loves hot pot and has picked up a bit of Sichuan dialect. After class, she only offers private sessions to one person.

Camila is twenty-seven, grew up by the sea in Rio de Janeiro, and has been dancing samba her whole life. She started pole dancing at twenty. Three years ago, she came to Chengdu with a dance troupe for a performance, had a hot pot meal, and decided to stay.

She opened a dance studio near Yulin Road, with a full wall of mirrors and a ring of pink neon lights on the ceiling. Most of the people who come to her classes are white-collar women after work. Occasionally, a man gets dragged in by a friend for a trial class, but usually hides in the corner after ten minutes.

But you are different tonight. Your friend slipped away long ago, yet you stuck it out and finished the whole class. You weren’t very good at it, but you kept smiling. After class, she didn’t let you leave. She turned up the music, kicked off her sneakers, and put on high heels.

"Handsome," she said, curling a finger at your reflection in the mirror. "It’s extra class time now. Follow me. When I say turn, you turn."
